How did you get started with fitness?

Honestly, I don’t remember ever not being into fitness.  I saw my dad exercise consistently while I was growing up and just followed along.

Where does your motivation come from?

I’m passionate about what I do so it doesn’t require much motivation for me.  I look forward to my workouts.  It’s on the days where I can’t work out that I am most frustrated.  But, quite frankly, It’s not about motivation for any of us regarding any lifelong endeavor.  It’s about commitment.  Motivation is fleeting, superficial, and irrelevant.  Sure, it feels good to be motivated.  Motivation is fun.  But no one is motivated 100% of the time.  It’s the commitment to yourself and to the process that matters.

What workout routine has worked best for you?

I don’t design workouts by the week.  My workout frequency is based on constant internal monitoring.  I don’t count sets.  I don’t count reps.  They are arbitrary guesses at what I can do on any given day.  I do minimal cardio because it just burns up muscle.  Instead, I focus on eating foods that support fat loss.

If you had to pick only 3 exercises what would they be and why?

I’ve learned not to think “exercises”.  I design specific challenges so that I can stimulate specific muscles.  But…I’d be pretty sad if I never got to deadlift again.

What is your supplementation like?

Eat real food!  The only supplement I use is the only one that is USDA approved….because it’s made of 100% real food.

What type of Music do you listen to when working out?

Anything!  From nothing to everything.  It all just depends on my mood.

Who are your favorite DJs/Producers?

TJR, Deep Dish, iiO, Armin Van Buren, and Robin Skouteris are a few I have on my playlist right now.

What is your best advice to a woman trying to achieve a physique like yours?

A. Avoid conventional wisdom regarding diet and exercise

B. Build Muscle  C. “If man made it, don’t eat it.” -Jack LaLanne

What is your favorite quote?

“It is historical continuity that maintains most assumptions, not repeated assessment of their validity.” -Edward de Bono
